T-visa program underused
Although it comes as no suprise to anyone who has been paying attention to the issue, today’s LA Times reports that the T-visa program — designed to provide certain immigration protections for the victims of human trafficking — is not meeting the needs of many trafficking victims.

According to the article, authorities blame the limited scope of the program upon a lack of public awareness and outreach. Immigrants rights advocates have also noted that the T visa requirements — particularly those that require cooperation with law enforcement — may be too restrictive.
I’ll be analyzing the problems of the T visa program (and related provisions) in much more depth in an article forthcoming this spring. Stay tuned.
