Pro-Immigrant March in Paris

Thousands of people marched through Paris on Saturday to protestplans to tighten restrictions on immigration and step up deportationsof immigrant families with children who are in the country illegally.   

InteriorMinister Nicolas Sarkozy’s new immigration law, which passed inparliament Friday, makes it harder to gain residency permits and endsthe practice of automatically granting papers to undocumented immigrants whocan prove they have lived in France for 10 years. Sarkozy also hasvowed to send home at least 25,000 undocumented immigrants this year, up from about20,000 in 2005. Click here.
