The Need for Black-Latino Alliance

This morning, KFPK Radio in Los Angeles ran a live interview with one of the immigration blog editors.  The topic:

When the Minuteman Project set off for its 12 city national tour last May, they consciously included stops in predominately Black neighborhoods. Locally, listeners might recall when Black republican Ted Hayes and members of the Minuteman Project gathered together at Leimert Park in South Los Angeles for an anti-immigration rally. It was there that Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist actively courted members of the black community to his anti-immigration cause by stating, “If we are going to be giving preference to anybody…preference should go to the American-African community that has suffered more than anybody.” The small crowd of Minuteman supporters at the rally was outnumbered by a spontaneous counter-demonstration of African Americans and Latinos calling for black and brown unity.
