Right Result, Wrong Reason Department — Tancredo Says That Gonzo Must Go!

Colorado Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo on Tuesday joined a growing number of lawmakers calling for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign, citing “leadership failures” on illegal immigration more than the firing of eight U.S. attorneys. Why have Republicans been so quick to turn on Gonzales?  They stood behind Donald Rumsfeld for years. Similarly, when nominated for a D.C. Ciruit appointment, Republicans cut and ran from conservative Miguel Estrada.  In contrast, many of the same Republicans stood behind conservative court of appeals nominee  Michael McConnell.
