New Immigration Documentaries
LETTERS FROM THE OTHER SIDE is a new documentary available from New Day Films that focuses on a side of the immigration story rarely told by the media or included in our national debate. It interweaves video letters carried across the U.S./Mexico border by myself, the film’s director, with the personal stories of women left behind in post-NAFTA Mexico. John Anderson of Variety called it, “A much-needed examination of the collateral damage of illegal immigration,” and a “sensitive treatment of an overlooked issue that should make it resonate among a wide, and widely diverse, TV audience.” LETTERS FROM THE OTHER SIDE premiered at the Slamdance International Film Festival, and also screened at the South by Southwest Film Festival, the Guadalajara International Film Festival, and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, among others. It also has screened at countless community-based venues in conjunction with grassroots organizations and universities. Most recently, I was the recipient of the Annual Schneider Endowed Lecture Fellowship at Southern Oregon University. Also available from New Day Films is the perfect supplement to LETTERS — my previous film, LOS TRABAJADORES/THE WORKERS, which tells the story of immigrant workers fighting for their rights in Texas. Both films give a rarely seen human quality to the complexities of immigration, border, and labor issues. You can learn more about LETTERS FROM THE OTHER SIDE and see a trailer by going to www.lettersfromtheotherside.com. Both films can be ordered directly via New Day Films at www.newday.com, or 888-367-9154. And when you order both films you receive 10% off!
