Senator Sessions proposed amendment to the immigration reform bill, which failed, would have denied the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to immigrants who gain lawful status through the bill.  For analysis of the amendment, see Download 6-5-07imm.pdf

Professor Francine Lipman (Chapman) has an article (here) forthcoming in the Nevada Law Journal (Spring 2007) explaining in detail why this denial of the EITCC to legally working families is fundamentally unjust.  Lipman has written some other solid scholarship (here) on the tax controbutions of immigarnst.
