Iraqi scholars seek asylum

The Los Angeles Times reports that several Fulbright scholars fear returning to iraq and are seeking asylum in the United States.  It is unclear how many Fulbright scholars have returned to Iraq, since the Institute of International Education, which manages the program for the U.S. State Department, does not track such data.

Given the violence continuing in Iraq, we can expect to seek more iraqi asylum seekers and a growing refugee problem in the region.
