It is SUPER TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

196pxmike_huckabee_speaking_at_heal 160pxhillary_rodham_clinton 160pxobamabarack Mccain_context Romney Julia Preston of the N.Y. Times writes today about the possibility that, with increasing naturalization rates, Latina/os are poised to have a big impact on the primaries this Super Tuesday.  We will see as the returns come in this evening.

Out in California, in the Democratic primary, reports (but recall that the polls were wrong in New Hampshire) are that there is a surge of support for Barack Obama in the last week.  Hillary Clinton has much Latina/o support in the Golden State, and she early on garnered some key endorsements (such as Dolores Huerta of the UFW and LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa).  Still, I sense a generational divide among Latina/os, as with other groups, with younger Latina/os more likely to support Obama than Clinton.  in addition, Senator Obama’s endorsement by Senator Ted Kennedy and Maria Shriver, as well as his stance on the driver’s license issue, has attracted Latina/o attention and support.

On the Republican side in California, Mitt Romney has raised much $ just in the Sacramento area alone.  Mike Huckabee is a non-starter in California.  John McCain is the kind of independent-thinker likely to do well in the state.

My prediction on the primary results from California:

Clinton by a small margin

McCain

But, I am just a law professor and may well be wrong.  UPDATE:  My prediction on California was right!
