Elmer Fried Excellence In Teaching Award for Deborah Anker
Deborah Anker (Harvard) will receive the Elmer Fried Excellence In Teaching Award at the AILA Annual Convention in Vancouver this weekend. The award ceremony is on Saturday evening, June 28.
Anker is a Clinical Professor of Law and the Director of the Harvard Law School Immigration and Refugee Clinical Program. She is the author of the leading treatise, Law of Asylum in the United States, and has drafted ground-breaking guidelines and amicus curiae briefs. Much of her work has focused on gender and gender violence as a basis for asylum, and she is currently involved in questions of asylum eligibility and trafficking, disability status, religious beliefs and family membership. Most recently Deborah has been researching exclusion from refugee status for Burmese, Nepalese and Colombian refugees. She speaks regularly at conferences as well as programs for continuing education and training of judges and lawyers, including most recently for the International Association of Refugee Law Judges.
