Illegals Responsible for U.S. Economy’s Woes?

Anti-immigrant extremist Michelle Malkin takes anti-immigrant hysteria to new heights by blaming the mortgage crisis and the totterring U.S. economy on none other than the demon “illegal aliens.”  The evidence:  many Hispanics (many of whom are U.S. citizens and legal immigrants) were the victims of the sub-prime lending craze and areas with heavy Latina/o populations have seen high foreclosure rates.  See the pithy response by David Abromowitz on the Center for American Progress blog.  His punch line:

“Many conservatives have been trying to shift the housing crisis blame to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—but that sleight of hand doesn’t hold up. Now Malkin tries to blame Hispanics and illegal immigrants into one blurred-together culprit. Anyone want to take a bet that before this is over, someone will find a way to blame it on gay marriage?”
