MEDIA ADVISORY
CONFERENCE CALL ON NEW POLLING SHOWING STRONG AND WIDESPREAD SUPPORT FOR STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) VISA REFORM
Call Participants Will Discuss New Polling Data on Immigration Reform for STEM Grads Ahead of Anticipated Legislation
WHAT:
Ahead of anticipated legislation to be introduced before Congress in the coming days, participants will review recent poll data and offer insight into the economic benefits of reforming the U.S. visa system.
Presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney spoke last month at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) offering his support for such legislation:
“Immigration reform is not just a moral imperative, but an economic necessity as well. Immigrants with advanced degrees start companies, create jobs, and drive innovation at a high rate. Immigrants founded or cofounded nearly half of our 50 top venture-backed companies. They are nearly 30 percent more likely to start a business. And that kind of risk taking is something we need more than ever because new business starts are now at a 30-year low… If you get an advanced degree, we want you to stay here. So I’d staple a green card to the diploma of someone who gets an advanced degree in America.”
