RIP Kathy Vaughns 1945-2013
Dean Phoebe A. Haddon of Maryland sent out this sad e-mail message today:
“I write to share the very sad news that our colleague and friend, Professor Katherine L. Vaughns, died on Saturday after battling a serious, but short illness. We deeply mourn her passing.
Professor Vaughns joined our community almost 30 years ago. During her career she taught countless students and published widely, especially on issues in immigration law. Her teaching and research typified the commitment to social justice that is a hallmark of this law school. And, of course, she shared with all of us her second passion: her dedication to the arts and its role in exploring complex themes of law and society. You will find more on her life and work here.
We will plan an opportunity for this fall to celebrate Professor Vaughns’s life more formally. In the meantime, I would ask that we each take a few moments in quiet reflection to remember her as a colleague, a dear friend and for her many contributions to our community.Peace, Dean Phoebe A. Haddonof Maryland.”
Kathy was an amazing immigration scholar and person. We will miss her.
