DHS Secretary’s Nomination Faces Possible Delay
The Washington Times reports that several Senators said Wednesday they are impressed with Jeh C. Johnson, whom President Obama has nominated to head the Homeland Security Department, but said his nomination would be delayed unless he is more forthcoming in answering key questions. Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) said that he cannot vote for Johnson until the nominee pledges to tell Congress exactly what it will take to secure the border — an assurance Mr. Johnson was reluctant to give during his confirmation hearing. Sen. Tom Coburn, ranking Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said he expects Johnson to be confirmed, but said his nomination will be held up until he provides real answers to about two dozen questions that Coburn said were effectively ignored in the nomination questionnaire.
