Official Governor’s Portrait of California Governor Edmund G. Brown

The California Legislature is considering a number of bills that would represent resistance to the Trump administration’s expanded immigration enforcement efforts.  The state’s new Attorney General, former Congressmember Xavier Becerra, has publicly stated that the state would lead the resistance.  The Legislature retained former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and his law furm to represent the state as it navigates the new Trump administration’s policies.

Elizabeth Aguilera for CALmatters considers the changing approach of California Governor Jerry Brown to immigration from his first stint as Governor from 1975-83 to his current time in office.  My bet is that Governor Brown. who appointed Attorney General Becerra to replace Kamala Harris who was elected to the U.S. Senate, will be inclined to sign legislation that serves to the extent possible to protect immigrants in California from the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration policies.
