Meet James Dimaya of Dimaya v. Sessions
CNN updates us on James Dimaya, who was the prevailed in the Supreme Court in Dimaya v. Sessions, with Justice Neil Gorsuch providing the fifth vote to invalidate the “crime of violence” removal ground for being unconstitutionally vague.
Dimaya, a lawful permanent resident from the Philippines, has been in the United States since 1992. He seems to have gotten his life together.
According to CNN, Dimaya “says if he were to ever meet Gorsuch, he’d thank him.
`I would say, ‘thank you very much.’ If it wasn’t for him, I would not be here getting my life straight,’ he said.
Dimaya said that his incarceration taught him about freedom.
`He gave me another chance, because I love the United States, but in my early age I never thought how lucky I was to be here,’ he said.”
