Proclamation Serving Asian American and Pacific Islanders

The White House has issued a proclamation honoring educational institutions serving Asian American and Pacific Islanders for the first time. Schools with the designation receive federal funding.

Approximately 60 schools were recognized, from coast to coast (and the Pacific Ocean with American Samoa and Honolulu Community College). Among the colleges were many public schools: University of California Irvine and four more UC campuses plus six Cal State campsues, CUNY Queens College (and three more CUNY campuses), and the University of Massachusetts Boston.

The proclamation coincides with Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Week. More from NBC Asian America here.
