Disabled California teen mistakenly detained by law enforcement officers on way to high school

News from Los Angeles:  Days before school was supposed to start, a 15-year-old San Fernando High School student with `significant disabilities’ was mistakenly detained by immigration officers, according to Los Angeles Unified School District officials.  “[T]the boy was in a car with his grandmother while a family member registered for classes at Arleta High School when officers approached them. The officers told them they were `not enforcing immigration law, nor were they part of ICE,’ according to [Los Angeles Unified School District” Superintendent Andrew Carvalho, who spoke at a news conference Monday afternoon, but he added that videos from the detainment `clearly denote police and Border Patrol.'”

In a statement shared with the press, a Customs and Border Protection spokesperson denied that Arleta High School was part of an operation. “Allegations that Border Patrol targeted Arleta High School are FALSE,” the spokesperson said. “Agents were conducting a targeted operation on criminal illegal alien Cristian Alexander Vasquez-Alvarenga — a Salvadoran national and suspected MS-13 pledge with prior criminal convictions in the broader vicinity of Arleta.”
