The Path From El Salvador to the Oregon Judiciary

President Trump has painted Salvadorans with a broad brush as MS13 gang members.  Here is a wonderful counter story.

A new play tells the story of a Salvadoran immigrant who is now a judge. Here and here are details.

Xiomara Torres crossed the U.S.-Mexico border into California at age 9 as an undocumented immigrant.  In the years after her arrival, Torres became a U.S. citizen, survived the difficulties of foster care and attended the University of California, Berkeley as well as Lewis & Clark Law School before eventually being appointed to the Multnomah County (Oregon) Circuit Court by Gov. Kate Brown in 2017.

Torres’ life is chronicled in Milta Ortiz’s new play, Judge Torres, which will have its world premiere at the Milagro Theatre.
