Challenge to Day Laborer Law
Federal District Court Judge Consuelo Marshall heard summary judgment arguments Monday on the legality of Redondo Beach’s (California) ordinance that prohibits day laborers from seeking work on city streets. Last year the judge barred the city from enforcing the law while the case is being considered.
Marshall gave no indication how she would rule. If the motion for summary judgment is denied, the case may be heard by a jury.
