Immigration at the Connemara National Park

This week, I found myself at the Connemara National Park on the West Coast of Ireland. Brian, the lovely agent at Galway’s Enterprise Rent-A-Car, suggested the trip. Yes, this is how I travel. Sometimes.

Anyhoo. The park was a fabulous surprise. It was a huge expanse of undeveloped area of land. (I realize that’s what we, in the U.S., expect from national parks. But I’d just been to Scotland’s North West Highlands Geopark, and it wasn’t like that at all.)

One of the main features of the area was its bog. Which sounds grim but was actually stunningly beautiful. Picture gorgeous waving grasses with streams and hidden puddles.

The visitor center at the park had all sorts of educational displays about bogs — how they’re made, what they contain, their importance to the community, etc. And–in and among all of that information–wouldn’t you know it? I found IMMIGRATION content!

Check it out:

Immigration officer: Ma’am, do you have any agricultural products to declare?

Woman: Why, sir, that’s just a sod of turf from the family bog.
