More Katrina Fallout

The Immigration Daily (October 26) reports that

“According to an op-ed by National Council of La Raza President Janet Murguia, sixty people at a Red Cross shelter for Hurricane Katrina refugees were rounded up by police and federal agents. The only people in the shelter subjected to this treatment were those that looked Hispanic, including those born in the US who were there to help; a former Marine and Vietnam veteran who happened to be Hispanic, was also temporarily detained and screened. This is yet another botched attempt to take a hard-line approach to round-up the undocumented, this time against victims of Hurricane Katrina. At a time where Congress is scrambling to find federal aid for Katrina relief efforts, precious resources are being spent on going after innocent undocumented hurricane victims. Needless to say, these efforts are woefully misguided. At a time of grave threat to the nation from Islamist terrorists, the federal government should use strong arm enforcement tactics against our country’s real enemies.” www.ilw.com
