60 Minutes Story on the Border

60 Minutes ran its story on immigration and border enforcement on Sunday, Dec. 11.  Unlike some previous 60 Minutes stories (recall the one in the early 1990s on Sheik Omar Rahman that helped bring us expedited removal  etc.), this one was more balanced and discussed the thousands of deaths, including over 400 this year alone,  directly caused by increased border enforcement in the major border hubs.  Ed Bradley discussed the death of one border crosser with his family in Mexico and the sadness they felt because of the death.  At several points, the report emphasized that migrants came to the United States to work and do not want to cause any harm.  Wayne Cornelius of UC San Diego offered his thoughts on the failure of the border enforcement build-up.  Tom Tancredo, not surprisingly, supported increased border enforcement.  All in all, the migrants were put in a positive light.  For a transcript of the story, as well as a video clip, see http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/12/08/60minutes/main1108476.shtml
