Coretta Scott King and Farmworkers
Coretta Scott King was a civil rights pioneer with her husband, but also lent her stature to causes such as women’s rights, AIDS awarness, nuclear disarmament, the eradication of poverty, ending apartheid in South Africa, and farmworkers’ rights. In 1970, she and Ethel Kennedy visited Cesar Chavez in a Salinas jail, after he had been arrested for refusing to end a lettuce boycott. See
