Business Community Divided over Legalization
The U.S. business community is all for doing something forundocumented immigrants, but maybe not grant legalization. The main lobbyingeffort is being led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and associationsrepresenting construction companies, restaurants and other industries thatemploy thousands of immigrants.
The most powerful grouprepresenting small businesses is sitting on the sidelines, however. Members ofthe National Federation of Independent Business are divided over immigrationreform. While 86% think it should be a high priority, they’re evenly split overthe key issue of whether illegal immigrants should be given a chance to earnU.S. citizenship.
