Pelosi Applauds Rallies

Washington, D.C.- Yesterday, House DemocraticLeader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the hundreds ofthousands of people who gathered across the country this week to call forcomprehensive immigration reform:

“I am encouraged tosee so many people from all across the country join together to urgecomprehensive, humane, and realistic immigration reform.  Theunprecedented show of support reaffirms our heritage as a nation of immigrants anddemonstrates anew that we are one nation:  E pluribus unum – from many,one.

“As we proudly sayin the Pledge of Allegiance, we are ‘one nation under God, indivisible, withliberty and justice for all.’  We must protect the dignity of all. We must oppose draconian and inhumane measures that seek to divide familieswhile criminalizing churches and advocates for immigrants.

“Comprehensive immigration reform is imperative to keep theAmerican people safe, protect our borders, and enhance our nationalsecurity.  We all must work toward comprehensive, bipartisan reform, asoutlined in the Gutierrez-Kolbe-McCain-Kennedy legislation.”
