States Considering Their Own Immigration Laws

State legislatures are considering hundreds of proposals dealing with undocumented immigration, reflecting the exasperation of many local officials with Congress’ failure to address the issue.

In Arizona, the House passed a proposal to set fines and other penalties for companies that hire undocumented workers. Other proposals include  bills to eric an 80-mile fence and to require police to check citizenship of anyone stopped for a traffic offense.
