For an interesting read, check out Juan Hernandez, The New American Pioneers: Why Are We Afraid of Mexican Immigrants? (2006). The son of a Mexican father and an Anglo Texan mother, Hernandez was educated in the United States where he was a university professor before being appointed to Mexico President Vicente Fox’s cabinet. Besides arguing in favor of comprhensive immigration reform, Hernandez relays some of the very human stories of Mexicans who migrate to the United States.
