States’ Immigration Remedies
With no resolution of immigration-reform legislation at the federallevel, states have been pressing ahead with their own measures intendedto discourage undocumented immigration and curtail costs of providingservices to that population.
Lawmakers in Kansas, Iowa, and Arizona have voted this year torestrict certain social services to undocumented immigrants, followingsimilar action last year in Virginia. Other states have passedlegislation cracking down on employers of undocumented immigrants and thosewho sell forged documents to them.
