Early Report on San Diego Hearing

A Republican-led House panel held a series of unusualhearings about immigration on Wednesday, a blow to President Bush’sproposed election-year overhaul that includes a guest worker programand legal status for some who are in the country illegally.

A House subcommittee met at a San Diego BorderPatrol station to discuss the vulnerability of the nation’s borders toterrorists.
