Guest Worker Program?

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a feild hearing on “Comprehensive Immigration Reform: Examining the Need for a Guest Worker Program” at the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street, Independence Mall, Philadelphia, PA.

The hearings include testimony from NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Phliadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson and other leaders and analysists.  A link to the Judiciary Committee website, which includes links to all of the testimony, is here.

Bloomberg noted the need for immigrants and for a comprehensive approach to immigration reform.  He argued against the enforcement only approach thus:

“It’s as if we expect border control agents to do what a century of communism could not: defeat the natural market forces of supply and demand… and defeat the natural human desire for freedom and opportunity.

You might as well as sit in your beach chair and tell the tide not to come in.”
