Any Interest in a Student AILA Chapter? Please Respond.

From David C. Koelsch Director, Immigration Law Clinic University of Detroit Mercy 313-596-9805 koelscdc@udmercy.edu:

Hi all. I am not a regular watcher of the blog so please forgive me if this question has come up before. I have several students who are interested in forming a student chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). AILA has student memberships (at the low, low price of $50/year) but does not allow student chapters. As the secretary of the Michigan AILA chapter, I contacted AILA and learned that, while AILA is not opposed to student chapters in the future, they would like to see just how much interest may be out there for student chapters. Would any of your students be interested in forming student chapters? If so, please let me know roughly how many and at which law schools, and I can pass that information on to AILA. My students, with or without being an AILA chapter, are planning on forming a student-led immigration law organization; do any similar organizations exist at other law schools? Thank you! David C. Please feel free to add a comment to the blog about student interest at your school.  THANKS!
