Nielson Provides Demographic PopulationInformation Television Households

,August 24, 2006 – Hispanic/Latinos and Asians remain the fastest-growingnational  segments of the population, with television households for eachincreasing by 3.6 percent over last year, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Nielsen’s National Universe Estimates (the estimate of television viewerswithin the population) also show that the number of Black or African Americantelevision households grew faster than the national U.S. average, 1.3 versus1.1 percent, respectively (see Table 1).

Although Nielsen has previously released information on total Asian households,this is the first time that it has released information on national Asiandemographics.

Nielsen Media Research annually reports television household estimates eachSeptember based on information from a variety of sources, including Claritas (aleading provider of demographic data), the United States Census Bureau, andNielsen’s own television samples.
