MLK Scholars at Ithaca College

Ithaca_1 I ran across a wonderful program this last week, especiallyfort undergraduates interesting in social justice.  The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar Program at Ithaca College is an interdisciplinary learning community that emphasizes citizenship and service in the global community. The program is open to academically talented first-year students from ethnic or racial backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in American higher education. The MLK scholars will participate in scholarly seminars and research, interact with distinguished visitors and guest lecturers, engage in funded international and domestic travel, be involved in community service, and receive up to full tuition in aid, with a minimum merit-based scholarship of $17,000 The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar Program is an interdisciplinary learning community that emphasizes citizenship and service in the global community. A wonderful group of faculty members, including Professor Charles Venator Santiago, oversee the program.  Last week, I met a number of the MLK Scholars, a socioeconomically and racially diverse group, and was most impressed with their grasp of immigration issues, thorough education on issues of race and civil rights, and deep commitment to social justice.
