Record Number of Immigrants to Ireland
Ireland is experiencing a record wave of immigration led by jobseekers from Poland and other new European Union nations from theformerly communist east, a report published Tuesday found.
The government’s Central Statistics Agency said 86,900 peopleimmigrated to the Republic of Ireland from May 2005 to April 2006, thehighest since record-keeping on immigration trends began two decadesago. It said 43 percent came from the EU states of Eastern Europe, ledby 22,900 from Poland and 6,100 from Lithuania. Click here.
