Another federal/state deal

Today’s Boston Globe has an article by Michael Levenson and Jonathan Salzman announcing the deal struck by Governor Mitt Romney and the federal government which will allow the Massachusetts State Police to arrest immigrants who are in the state without legal authorization. The troopers will receive 4.5 weeks of training to prepare them for their new jobs. Advocates of state-federal cooperation hail the deal, but civil libertarians and immigrants rights advocates are critical, “saying it would lead to racial profiling and foster mistrust of the police in communities with large numbers of immigrants.”
