One in 20 Latinos ‘goes hungry’:  One in 20 Latinos in the US regularly goes hungry and as many as one in five does not have proper access to nutritious food, a US report says. Poverty and lack of awareness about state entitlements are the causes, says the study by Hispanic civil rights group the National Council of La Raza. Immigrants also face a series of linguistic, legal and cultural obstacles in accessing enough food. Latinos are the biggest single minority group in the United States.   Click here for the entire story.

US city votes down immigrant bill:  A city council in central Florida has rejected a by-law that would have been among the strictest local legislation in the US against illegal immigrants. Members of the Avon Park city council voted 3-2 against the ordinance after a heated five-hour debate. The law would have made English the official language and penalised people doing business with illegal immigrants. The council chamber in Avon Park was packed to capacity as people turned up to argue both for and against the controversial ordinance. Those against included citrus growers and farmers who argued the measures would hurt the local economy, which is heavily dependent on migrant workers. Click here for the full story.
