Farmers Branch Revisiting Immigration Ordinance

Farmers Branch officials will consider tossing out a controversial ordinance banning apartments from renting to illegal immigrants and replacing it with a revised proposal.   For the Dallas News story, click here.

In a special meeting on Wednesday, January 17, the Farmers Branch City Council, by unanimous vote, directed the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance repealing Ordinances 2892 and 2900 and adopting revised apartment complex licensing standards regarding citizenship and/or immigration certification requirements. The effective date of such ordinance shall be May 22, 2007. The draft ordinance shall be made available for public inspection on the City’s website no later than this Friday at 6 p.m. The draft ordinance will be scheduled for review, discussion and consideration at the City Council’s January 22, 2007 meeting. The agenda item for the draft ordinance shall include a public hearing prior to the City Council’s consideration of the ordinance.   For more information, see the city’s website (click here).
