Immigrants in the Big Apple
Immigrants are arriving in America at a rate of one every 27 seconds, according to latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. The number of foreigners who have settled in New York since 2000 exceeds half a million. “The level of diversity is unprecedented,” says Prof. Marcelo Suarez-Orozco, co-director of immigration studies at NYU. “It has never before happened that one city encompasses the globe.” In a special report, The New York Daily News talks to people from 100 countries, revealing why they moved to New York and what they love about the city they now call home.
