Citzen Spelling Bee Champion’s Immigrant Parents Deported
When 13-year-old Kunal Sahm a U.S. citizen by birth, stands before television cameras May 30-31 to represent Utah — for the second time — at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, his parents won’t be there with him. After thgeir asylum claims were denied, Ken and Sarita Sah were deported to India last July after residing legally in the U.S. for 16 years. Kunal was born in the United States and is a citizen. He moved with his parents to this central Utah town 10 years ago when they bought the Budget Inn motel here. Ken and Sarita Sah in 2001 built the 46-room Ramada Inn nearby. For the story, click here.
