Congressional Research Service On Number Of Undocumented Aliens In US

The Congressional Research Service (here) issued a report presenting data estimating the number of unauthorized aliens who have been living in the US since 1986.   The bottom line is that the estimated undocumented immigrant population increased from roughly 3.2 million in 1986 to 10.3 million in 2004.  This drastic increase occurred despite the advent of employer sanctions, the dramatic increase in border enforcement operations and detention in the 1990s, tough immigration reform legislation in 1996, etc. etc. etc.  I leave it to the readers to connect the dots.
