The Shadow Wolves: Tracking Smugglers Along the Border

The N.Y. Times (here) has a fascinating story about a group of Indian trackers, the Shadow Wolves, in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The Wolves, whose activities have been authorized by Congress, have been teaching tracking skills not only to U.S. officers but, at the behest of the Department of State, to border officers of other countries.

The U.S. southern border with Mexico is marked by reservations that straddle the two nations.  Native peoples on the reservation thus are greatly affected by the flow across the border.
