Bloggers on the Failure of Immigration Reform
“Open Source with Christopher Lydon,” a public radio show out of Massachusetts, devoted an hour long show yesterday to the analysis by bloggers of the failure of immigration reform. A podcast is available at (here). The Senate’s immigration package was lambasted on conservative blogs and talk radio. Blogger and American Prospect writer Ezra Klein explained it way: the bill had three interlocking parts that really represented three different consitutencies. The amnesty section was for many of the Democrats; the guestworker section was for business; and the enforcement section was for the “restrictionists.” Those restrictionists, Klein said, were the ones who stirred up the controversy that brought down the bill.
Participants in the discussion included Ezra Klein, Writing Fellow, American Prospect, Blogger, Ezra Klein: Tomorrow’s Media Conspiracy Today; Ali Noorani, Executive Director, Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition; Erik Erikson, Blogger, Confessions of Political Junkie, CEO, RedState; and this blogger.
