UK May Consider Immigration Reforms As Well

According to NDTV.com:

Close on the heels of the ongoing debate in the US Congress, the UK is also considering immigration reform proposals. Two UK MPs, Ruth Kelly and Liam Byrne (who is also the Immigration Minister) are planning to outline new immigration proposals to reward citizenship on the basis of points earned.

According to these, additional credits will be made mandatory for getting a UK citizenship. The credits will based on civic and voluntary work and respect for the rule of law. The new criteria will also look at more and faster learning of English as against just passing a basic test.

The move is expected to evoke strong criticism among the 1.3 million Indians in UK, who form one of the largest non-European groups of migrants to Britain. Click here.
