Documentary on Iraqi Refugees

Here is a message that I received that may be of interest:

My name is Kalyanee Mam, and my partner David Mendez and I are currently producing a documentary that will follow the hopes and struggles of Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria, as well as in the Kurdish regions in northern Iraq. We view this documentary as part of a greater effort to raise awareness of the horrific situation of Iraqi refugees and the dangers faced by displaced persons across Iraq and to mobilize action to support the increased admission of Iraqi refugees into the United States. I myself am a refugee from Cambodia — I became involved in Iraqi refugee issues after working as a lawyer in Baghdad. For more information about the documentary, please visit www.iraqrefugeedoc.com.  (The graphics are super!)

Although the actual documentary will not be complete until next fall, we feel it is critical to take action on this issue now because of the importance of raising national awareness and connecting with the growing Iraqi refugee community in the United States. We feel this is a perfect opportunity for the students to become informed and find out how they can take action nationally and especially locally. Evergreen State College and the University of Michigan will be hosting a campus-wide screening and panel discussion at the end of this month (details below), and we expect that Berkeley, Harvard, UCLA, and Yale will host screenings and discussions in January (details to come). We would appreciate it very much if you could pass on this information and our website to student groups and individuals that may be interested in this issue.
