Huck Denies Any Generosity to DREAM Students

The Fact Checker by Michale Dobbs (Washington Post) places into question the following statement by Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee:

“In Arkansas, Governor Huckabee supported broadening a particular merit scholarship — not in-state tuition – to include high-achieving children who were applying for citizenship…The proposal to make children of illegal immigrants eligible for in-state tuition was not part of the Governor’s plan.”

It is an odd election year when candidates want to appear consistently tough on immigrants and a generous — and sensible — gesture must be denied, not defended.

As election season nears, immigration continues to be a hot issue in the Iowa and New Hampshire GOP.
