Immigration in the New Hampshire Primary

The presidential candidates criss-crossing the Granite State are finding that, as in Iowa, immigration is a hot issue in New Hampshire.  Keep in mind that the candidates who came out on top in Iowa — Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee — have been criticized for being “soft” on the issue of immigration.  Obama has stood firm on the driver’s license issue, while others, including Hillary Clinton, flip-flopped.  Huckabee, who has moved to the more enforcement end of the sprectrum, was attacked for his pro-immigrant stances as governor of Arkansas.

We will see what happends in New Hampshire on Tuesday.  But, my guess is that immigration is not going to be the issue — or even one of the top issues — in determining the winners of the primary.
