Audit Faults Delays in Immigrant Name Checks
The Washington Post reports that “The FBI system for checking the names of immigration applicants suffers from ‘serious deficiencies’ that have produced overwhelming backlogs and questions about the reliability of the information, an internal audit has found. The bureau’s name checks have fallen victim to ‘outdated and inefficient technology’ as well as inadequately trained employees, according to a report issued …. by the Justice Department inspector general.” See here or the full DOJ report. It is titled “The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Security Check Procedures for Immigration Applications and Petitions (Redacted for Public Release), Audit Report 08-24, June 2008” http://www.usdoj.gov/oig/reports/FBI/a0824/final.pdf
