Immigrant of the Day: Angela Park (Brazil)
Angela Park (born August 25, 1988) is a professional golfer currently playing on the LPGA Tour.
Park was born in Brazil to Korean parents who ran a business in Brazil. At the age of 8, she moved with her father and siblings to Southern California. In June 2008, Park became a U.S. citizen.
Park was successful in the American Junior Golf Association, winning five times. In 29 events in four seasons, she posted 24 top-10 finishes. In 2005, she reached the semifinals of the USGA Women’s Amateur Championship, the premier amateur tournament for women golfers in the world.
Park turned professional in April 2006 and competed in sixteen tournaments. She earned full playing privileges on the LPGA for 2007 at the December 2006 LPGA Qualifying Tournament and was named Rookie of the Year on the LPGA for 2007. After finishing second last year and leading earlier in this year’s tournament, Park finished tied for third in the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open.
