Another One (Undocumented Immigrant) Bites the Dust: 12 Million to Go
The Los Angeles Times reports on a deportation cases that outraged many residents — not in “sanctuary” cities like LA or San Francisco on the Left Coast, but in the small town of Graham, North Carolina.
Marxavi Angel Martinez grew up in Graham and was a high school honor student and cheerleader before taking a job at the Graham Public Library. At 23, she was married with an infant. Her life, however, came crashing down in July when she was accused of using a fake Social Security number and lying on her job application.
Martinez’s parents had brought her to the United States from Mexico on a visa when she was 3. But they never left the country and Martinez became an undocumented immigrant. She was arrested and onitially placed in detention, facing deportation. Her arrest outraged many Graham residents. At a contentious meeting of the Alamance County Board of Commissioners this month, Chairman Larry W. Sharpe asked Sheriff Terry Johnson whether he was “profiling” Latino residents.
What sense would the removal of Marxavi Angel Martinez make?
