Chamber of Commerce Lawsuit Over E-Verify
It’s almost rote by this point. President Bush tries to expand the power of the executive. Civil libertarians or human rights groups loudly protest and threaten lawsuits. This week, an unlikely new critic joined the chorus criticizing the administration’s broad view of executive power — the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Greetings –
We wanted to share this report by ProPublica reporter Jake Bernstein about how the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has condemned and threatened to sue the Bush Administration for its proposed rule that will require federal contractors to use the E-Verify program to confirm the citizenship of employees.
Although the Chamber is generally viewed as “a friendly administration tool,” their letter to the Department of Homeland Security points to a widening divide on the immigration issue.
We hope you’ll share this report with your readers. Thanks.
Best,
